Henry Winkler and Cheyenne Jackson have confirmed toplining gigs in Broadway play “The Performers,” now gearing up for a fall run.
Ari Graynor (“Relatively Speaking”), Daniel Breaker (“Passing Strange,” “Shrek the Musical”) and Jenni Barber also appear in the new comedy by David West Read. Evan Cabnet (“Warrior Class”) directs.
Storyline centers on two high school buddies (Jackson and Breaker) who get back in touch at the Adult Film Awards in Vegas. Winkler, whose last Rialto stint was in Neil Simon play “The Dinner Party” in 2000, plays an older porn legend.
Jackson, a fave among theater avids, last appeared on the Main Stem in “Finian’s Rainbow.”
Read’s prior Gotham credit was “The Dream of the Burning Boy,” which played a 2010 run also directed by Cabnet as part of the Roundabout Underground’s programming. Robyn Goodman (“Avenue Q,” “Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo”), who produced “Burning Boy” with the Roundabout, produces “Performers” with Scott M. Delman and Amanda Lipitz.
One more thesp remains to be set, who (along with Graynor) will play one of two women in the lives of the two buddies. Creative team for the world preem includes Anna Louizos (sets), Jeff Croiter (lights), Jessica Wegener Shay (costumes) and Nevin Steinberg (sound).
Production kicks off previews Oct. 23, with an opening set for Nov. 14 at the Longacre Theater.
