Helmer-choreographer Susan Stroman has tapped her creative team for the brewing musical version of “Bullets Over Broadway,” with frequent Stroman collaborator William Ivey Long (“The Producers,” “Contact”) joining the team as costume designer and Santo Loquasto, the production designer of the 1994 film, on board for sets.
Lighting designer Donald Holder, another Rialto veteran, also is on the roster as is Glen Kelly, who will provide the musical arrangements and supervision for the tuner, which will incorporate pre-existing songs drawn from the storyline’s 1920s setting.
Based on the screenplay by Woody Allen and Douglas McGrath (whose play “Checkers” recently wrapped up a run at Off Bway’s Vineyard Theater), plot follows an aspiring legit scribe forced to cast a mobster’s moll in his new play. Allen pens the book for the show.
Produced by Letty Aronson and Julian Schlossberg, title is queued up for the 2013-14 season. Stroman is currently at work on the musical version of another film, “Big Fish,” trying out this spring in Chicago ahead of a potential Broadway run next season.
Casting, theater and other details for “Bullets” remain to be set.
