The brewing Broadway production of Rodger and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” has locked in its leads, with Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana set to play the title character and her Prince Charming, respectively.
Osnes, who first came to Broadway as the winner of reality casting skein “Grease: You’re the One That I Want,” has logged recent Gotham credits including “Anything Goes,” “Pipe Dream” and “Bonnie and Clyde,” in which she starred as Bonnie. Fontana, meanwhile, has more recently been associated with nonmusical outings including “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and “Sons of the Prophet,” but he’s also appeared in tuner offerings “Sunday in the Park With George” and “Billy Elliot.”
The revised version of “Cinderella” — produced by Robyn Goodman, Stephen Kocis and Jill Furman in association with Center Theater Group — will have a new book by Douglas Carter Beane, with songs from the original score augmented by the songsmiths’ catalog of unused tunes. Mark Brokaw helms.
“Cinderella” targets a Broadway berth during the 2012-13 season, with exact dates and theater still to be determined.
