Amy Brenneman will topline the world preem of Gina Gionfriddo’s play “Rapture, Blister, Burn,” opening in June at Off Broadway’s Playwrights Horizons.
Brenneman will play a high-profile academic who comes to covet the life of her grad school friend, a homemaker played by Kellie Overbey. Cast also includes Lee Tergesen, Beth Dixon and Virginia Hull.
Peter DuBois (“Sons of the Prophet”), a.d. of Boston’s Huntington Theater, directs the play. He also helmed Gionfriddo’s “Becky Shaw,” the Pulitzer Prize finalist that had a successful run at Off Broadway’s Second Stage.
Brenneman (“Private Practice,” “Judging Amy”) hasn’t appeared onstage in Gotham since the 1990s, when she appeared at Lincoln Center Theater in “God’s Heart” and at Classic Stage Company in “The Learned Ladies,” although she did star in the Williamstown Theater Festival’s production of “A Nervous Smile” in 2006.
“Rapture, Blister, Burn” begins previews May 18 prior to a June 12 opening.
