Australian Warlow to star in Broadway revival
Aussie thesp Anthony Warlow has been tapped to play Daddy Warbucks in the upcoming Broadway revival of “Annie.”
Stint will rep the Broadway debut for Warlow, but not the actor’s first time in the role. He’s currently playing the part in a Down Under staging that bowed in Sydney prior to its current run in Melbourne. He previously took on the same character in a 2000 revival of “Annie” as well.
Actor will appear in the Rialto incarnation opposite Katie Finneran as the scheming Miss Hannigan and Lilla Crawford as the titular moppet.
Warlow has appeared in both opera and in musical theater, including in “The Phantom of the Opera” in Oz.
James Lapine directs the new Gotham production of the 1977 musical by Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin and Thomas Meehan. Andy Blankenbuehler choreographs.
“Annie” begins previews Oct. 3 at the Palace Theater ahead of a Nov. 8 opening.
