Zurich fetes Weintraub

Retrospective to showcase top pics

BERLIN — The Zurich Film Festival is paying tribute to Jerry Weintraub with its Golden Eye career achievement award.

The fest, which runs Sept. 20-30, is also presenting a retrospective of some of the producer’s most popular films.

Weintraub’s long list of credits include the “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Karate Kid” series as well as George Burns’ 1977 hit comedy “Oh, God!”

“We are extraordinarily proud to welcome Jerry Weintraub, one of Hollywood’s true legends, to Zurich and are delighted that he will share his films and stories with our public,” said Zurich Film Festival artistic director Karl Spoerri.

Weintraub will discuss his career and body of work as part of the festival’s Master Class series.

Weintraub is currently producing Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic “Behind the Candelabra,” starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, and is planning to produce a new live-action version of “Tarzan” for Warner Bros. in 2013.

He most recently appeared in HBO’s “His Way,” a documentary about his life that aired last year.

Zurich has previously honored Roman Polanski, Oliver Stone, Stephen Frears and Milos Forman as well as stars like Douglas, Sean Penn, Morgan Freeman and Sylvester Stallone.
