'Savages' star to receive achievement in cinema award

BERLIN — The Zurich Film Festival is honoring John Travolta with its Golden Eye award for achievement in cinema.

Travolta will accept the prize on Sept. 20 before the gala screening of Oliver Stone’s “Savages,” which opens the fest.

Travolta stars in the film alongside Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Blake Lively.

“We’re excited to welcome John Travolta to Zurich to bestow him with this honor and celebrate his amazing career,” said fest director Karl Spoerri. “We’re gearing up for a momentous opening night.”

Travolta recently completed filming action movie “Killing Season,” co-starring Robert De Niro and directed by Mark Steven Johnson. His other recent credits include Pierre Morel’s 2010 action-thriller “From Paris With Love,” starring opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Walt Becker’s “Old Dogs,” alongside Robin Williams.

The 11-day fest is also honoring producer and entertainment industry vet Jerry Weintraub with a Golden Eye career achievement award.
