Eye on the Oscars: Best Picture
ORIGINS: “It all started about five or six years ago with a film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden. Eventually, that became ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’” Boal says.
FUNDING: “Megan Ellison financed the film through her company, and then Sony and Universal agreed to distribute.”
HIGH HURDLES: “The biggest obstacle was telling the epic sweep of this story on the budget we had and in the time available to us. We had to work fast, fast, fast.”
DOMINO EFFECT: “The casting, like everything else, came together quickly, but it was such a large cast that up until the last week of production, Kathryn was still filling in talent and looking at audition tapes to cast the film.”
