Michael Apted picked up a helmer award at the Baja Int’l Film Festival. At Saturday’s event, Apted reminisced about an offer he received to helm the 1999 James Bond pic, “The World Is Not Enough.” “I asked them which book it was based on and they said, ‘Ian Fleming wrote (14) Bond books, this is the 19th movie,’ ” he recalled.

Of his latest pic, “Chasing Mavericks,” Apted likened shooting waves to capturing gorillas on film as he did in “Gorillas in the Mist.” Both were impossible to control, said Apted.
