Well Go USA Entertainment plays ‘Hero’

Company acquires rights to Stephen Fung pic

Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired all North American rights to Stephen Fung’s “Tai Chi Hero” including theatrical, non-theatrical, home video, TV and digital/electronic.

Well Go is planning a 2013 release for “Tai Chi Hero,” the second title in a trilogy. The first film in the series, “Tai Chi Zero,” opens Friday in North America with We Go and Variance handling.

Both pics are produced by Chen Kuofu. “Tai Chi Hero” stars cast members from “Tai Chi Zero” including Jayden Yuan, Tony Leung Kar-fa, Eddie Peng and Angelababy. Peter Stormare and Daniel Wu join the cast for the second film.

“Tai Chi Zero” is a kung-fu action-comedy about a 19th-century Chinese village under threat from encroaching industrialists. In the sequel, a key character returns from self-imposed exile with his new bride with mastery of an elaborate form of martial arts that amazes the awestruck villagers.

Both “Tai Chi Zero” and “Tai Chi Hero” were acquired from Huayi Brothers Media in deals negotiated between Leslie Chen on behalf of the company and Doris Pfardrescher of Well Go.
