Protagonist to unveil pic to buyers in Berlin
LONDON — Brit shingle-distrib Vertigo Films is making a third instalment of its “Streetdance” film franchise, dubbed “Streetdance Jnrs.,” which will be unveiled to buyers at the European Film Market next week.Pic, which is being sold internationally by Protagonist Pictures, sees fast-talking Ethan team up with shy dance-loving nerd Jaden to put on a streetdance talent show to save their beloved youth club from closure. Pic has yet to attach a director but script has already been penned by Paul Gerstenberger. Vertigo’s James Richardson said that the new pic aims to be a “spinoff franchise.” “We’re hoping to build a new franchise with this,” he said. “The key thing is that this one is all kids, but it has the same kind of vibe and same kind of dancing.” Shingle is still deciding whether to shoot the pic in 3D, but it plans to go into production on “Jnrs.” this spring. Vertigo will distribute the pic in Blighty, while Square One will distribute in Germany and Metropolitan will take rights in Gaul. The first instalment of the franchise, “Streetdance 3D,” which was helmed by Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini, grossed $16.8 million in the U.K., when it was released in 2010. The duo also helmed “Streetdance 2,” which is slated for release in Blighty on March 30.
