Universal Intl. acquires ‘Foosball’ rights

3D animated film from 'Secrets in Their Eyes' helmer

Universal Pictures Intl. has acquired distribution rights in Latin America and Spain for “Secrets in Their Eyes” helmer Juan Jose Campanella’s latest pic “Foosball,” with plans to release the film locally next year.

A 3D animated film, “Foosball” tells the story of a young boy whose table football players come to life and help him beat a rival player and win the affection of his childhood sweetheart.

Pic, which currently is in post-production, is being supervised by Sergio Pablos (“Despicable Me”) and is produced by Jorge Estrada Mora’s Jempsa in Argentina, as well as by Plural-Jempsa and Antena 3 Films in Spain. J.J. Campanella and Gaston Gorali are exec producing, with participation from Canal +, La Sexta and Telefé.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of UPI in London by Peter La Terriere and Alexander Jooss. Film Factory Entertainment is selling international rights.
