UCLA film school taps McDonald

Cinematopgraphy head will lead dept. of film, TV and digital media

William McDonald has been named chair of the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television. McDonald will assume his new position July 1.

Appointed by dean Teri Schwartz after a department faculty election, McDonald, vice chair of undergraduate studies and head of cinematography at the school, takes over from Barbara Boyle.. He has worked with the industry to provide students the funds and tech to pursue cutting-edge projects and has taken advantage of his connections, crafting an extensive cinematographer-in-residence program that features names like Dante Spinotti, Vilmos Zsigmond and Roger Deakins.
