Sony handling domestic

Universal Pictures has acquired the international distribution rights to the untitled Kathryn Bigelow helmed project, written by Mark Boal, about the mission that killed Osama bin Laden.

Sony is currently handling domestic distribution rights on the film that is based on the true story on the team that hunted and eventually killed the mastermind of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.Pic stars Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton, Edgar Ramirez and Mark Strong. Annapurna Pictures is financing the project.

The rights were acquired from Panorama Media, which served as the film’s international sales agent. The markets that UPI will distribute in include U.K., Germany and France.

The pic will bow domestically on Dec. 19, 2012.
