'47 Ronin' moves to Christmas Day next year
Universal Pictures is rearranging its summer 2013 lineup, as well as moving the Keanu Reeves 3D epic “47 Ronin” for a second time to Christmas Day next year.
Among the most notable changes to U’s summer slate, the studio moved up its 3D re-release of “Jurassic Park” to April 5, from July 19, when Jeff Bridges-Ryan Reynolds supernatural actioner “R.I.P.D.” — originally dated for June 28 — now is slated to bow.
U dated three additional pics from May to August, starting with Richard Curtis-helmed comedy “About Time” on May 10, a date U cleared by moving up its Jason Bateman-Melissa McCarthy laffer to Feb. 8. Studio plans to release “Kick-Ass 2” on June 28, with “2 Guns,” starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, dated for Aug. 16.
“47 Ronin,” U’s revamped take on the Japanese tale of 47 samurai who avenge the death of their master, was set to bow this November but U bumped the pic to Feb. 8, 2013.
The most gives the studio an additional 10 months to tinker with the pic and its 3D conversion — a rare treatment for a U pic.
