U crosses $1 billion at domestic B.O.

'Ted' is the studio's latest hit this year

On pace for a record-setting year, Universal Pictures has surpassed the $1 billion mark at the domestic box office.

U hit the milestone thanks to the box office perfs of films including “Contraband,” “Safe House,” “Snow White and Huntsman” and “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.” The studio’s comedy “Ted” also hit a recent milestone, as it passed $200 million at the domestic box office.

Universal surpassed $1 billion at the international B.O. earlier this year.

The studio’s biggest year was 2008, when it released films including “Mamma Mia,” “The Incredible Hulk” and “Wanted.”

U still has “The Bourne Legacy,” “Les Miserables” and “This Is 40” set to open this year.
