‘Tycoon’ to kick off ScreenSingapore fest

Bona, Distribution Workshop execs to address confab

Wong Jing’s period Shanghai gangster pic “The Last Tycoon” will make its worldwide bow as the opening-night film of the ScreenSingapore film fest on Dec. 4, organizers said.

Produced by the Chinese private shingle Bona Film Group and Andrew Lau, the pic features Chow Yun-fat, Huang Xiaoming, Sammo Hung and Yolanda Yuan in the true story of a gangster who ruled Shanghai during the 1920s and 1930s. Pic is distributed by Hong Kong’s Distribution Workshop.

Bona topper Yu Dong and Distribution Workshop’s Nansun Shi will both be speaking at the ScreenSingapore conference.

This year’s ScreenSingapore is co-located with the Asia TV Forum & Market and will be held Dec. 4-7 at Sands Expo and Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands, in Singapore.

Greg Coote, chairman of the board of ScreenSingapore, said the decision to preem the movie at the fest “reaffirms Asia as the rising market for filmed entertainment, and Singapore is a great place to highlight the talents and opportunities that exist here.”
