“The Twilight Saga” producers Mark Morgan and Imprint Entertainment-chief Michael Becker have joined the Vladar Co. to produce the film adaptation of Arcana Comics’ upcoming graphic novel “Head Smash.”First ten pages of the book debuted at New York Comic Con on Thursday. Property was first introduced at San Diego Comic-Con this summer. Producers are using the fanfest circuit to launch a grassroots campaign to introduce the characters. “We’re essentially introducing a new graphic novel hero to the world and are competing against graphic novels that have been out for quite some time,” said the Vladar Co’s Edwin Mejia. “The main goal is to bring it to life.” The sci-fi thriller revolves around a loyal soldier of the brutal crime syndicate Horde, who armed with a serum that gives him superhuman strength, seeks revenge against the group that betrays him and takes his family. “It’s a gritty story with a lot of action that is really visual and lends itself well to both a graphic novel and a feature,” Yudin said. The Vladar Co.’s Vlad Yudin and Mejia are shepherding both the book and film. Yudin also is penning the script for the pic, based on the book written by Erik Hendrix and illustrated by Dwayne Harris. Yudin developed the original story. Arcana co-founder Sean Patrick O’Reilly also will serve as a co-producer on the film, which producers hope to start lensing next summer with a mid-range budget. Since launching their shingle in 2008, Yudin has written, directed and produced the documentary “Big Pun: The Legacy” about the late rapper Christopher Lee Rios, and the dramedy “Last Day of Summer,” starring DJ Qualls and actress Nikki Reed. In addition to wrapping up the “Twilight” franchise, Morgan recently executive produced Fox’s “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,” while Imprint is readying the indie drug drama “Kid Cannabis,” that John Stockwell wrote and will direct with a cast that includes Ron Perlman, Kenny Wormald and Jonathan Daniel Brown.
