Denis Leary platform helps boost comedians

The 84th Academy Awards received a virtual roasting with the birth of TweetRoast — a comedy platform that used the #tweetroast hashtag more than 24,000 times during the broadcast with over 11,000 individuals viewing the site.

“Oscar Fact: More people will see this tweet than ever saw ‘Tree of Life,’” tweeted Denis Leary.

The platform was started by Paul Fireman, head of Pittsburgh-based Fireman Creative, and Jim Serpico, head of Leary’s New York-based Apostle Entertainment with the aim of helping comedians grow their social media following.

TweetRoast’s next events will be the March 19 Republican debate in Portland, Ore., and the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Other comedians participating include Dane Cook and Jay Mohr.
