Dave Matthews perf highlight of Stuart House benefit
On Sunday, Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood was closed down for the John Varvatos ninth annual Stuart House Bring Your Heart to Our House benefit for the UCLA center that helps sexually abused kids.
The highlight of the day was a perf by special guest Dave Matthews, who sang on the main stage for almost an hour.
“It seems like such a good idea to be part of this event,” Matthews said. “And it’s no skin off my nose to play for an hour to bring attention and maybe some money to Stuart House.”
Co-chairing the event were Judd Apatow and wife Leslie Mann, who did more than lend their names for the invite.
“A friend asked us if we wanted to get involved with the Stuart House, and we did,” Mann said. “My life hasn’t been the same since.”
Describing how he got involved with Stuart House 10 years ago, Varvatos said: “When I went to the Stuart House for an event, it was a bad day and there were a couple of kids brought in that were abused. It ripped my heart out.”
Varvatos donated 25% of proceeds of the day from his WeHo store. Event included a silent auction and raised $700,000.
