Trio to fight bear in ‘Red Machine’

James Marsden, Thomas Jane, Billy Bob Thornton to star

James Marsden, Thomas Jane and Billy Bob Thornton are set to star in Indomitable Entertainment and Paul Schiff Prods.’ thriller “Red Machine” — sharing the spotlight with a live grizzly bear.

Fully financed pic centers around two estranged brothers (Marsden, Jane) who reconcile on a camping trip with their girlfriends. Once in the remote wilderness, however, things go horribly awry when they are attacked and relentlessly stalked by a horrifying grizzly bear — the Red Machine. Thornton will play a legendary bear expert and hunter. Producers are Paul Schiff, Tai Duncan and Hadeel Reda.

“Saw V” helmer David Hackl will direct the pic from a script by J.R. Reher.

Indomitable’s Dominic Ianno and Stuart Pollok will exec produce, and Wasatch Rocky Mountain Wildlife (“The Edge,” “Legends of the Fall,”

“The Bear,” “Dr. Dolittle 2”) will handle animal training and care.

“In Red Machine I want to examine the thrill of very real fear,” Hackl said. “An audience is more easily drawn in by a story that they consider plausible and relatable — something that could actually take place in the real world. Just by the premise you know something bad is going to happen.”

WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners rep Marsden, while WME and Media Talent Group rep Thornton. CAA and MTG rep Jane. APA reps Hackl and Reher.
