Tribeca Film acquires ‘Wicked’ thriller

Film unit nabs N. American rights to Spanish pic

Tribeca Film has acquired North American rights to Spanish thriller “No Rest for the Wicked,” currently screening at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.

“Wicked” (“No habra paz para los malvados”) won six Goya Awards in February, including the prizes for best film, director, actor and screenplay.

Tribeca Film plans a December release for the film, directed by Enrique Urbizu, on multiple platforms including VOD, iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, Vudu and Xbox.

Story centers on a dirty cop with a violent streak who murders three people in a bar during a drunken binge. A witness escapes from the building before the cop can catch him.

“Wicked” was scripted by Urbizu and Michel Gatzambide and produced by Gonzalo Salazar-Simpson and Alvaro Augustin as well as Lazona and Telecinco Cinema.

The deal was negotiated by Nick Savva for Tribeca Film and by Ivan Diaz of Filmax in Spain on behalf of the filmmakers.

Tribeca Film acquired a pair of pics that debuted at the Toronto Film Festival: “The Fitzgerald Family Christmas,” directed by Edward Burns, and documentary “How to Make Money Selling Drugs.”
