Thunderbird flies to L.A.

Canuck shingle expands, sets exex

VANCOUVER — Vancouver-based TV production and distribution company Thunderbird Films is opening a Los Angeles office.

The expansion comes on the heels of a new TV production partnership with Lionsgate Films. Lionsgate board member Frank Guistra is a major investor in Thunderbird.

Former Porchlight Entertainment producer Joe Broido will serve as exec VP, with former Myriad Pictures exec Jeffrey Engelen signing on as senior VP, distribution. Danielle Kreinik is development manager.

The new office will angle Thunderbird to break into the Hollywood playing field.

“Having a presence in Los Angeles’ creative community and operating among Hollywood’s key decision makers will augment the impressive portfolio of successful shows that the company’s Canadian headquarters has generated to date,” said Thunderbird Films’ prexy Michael Shepard. “Being able to blend the benefits of operations in both countries creates a plethora of exciting new possibilities.”
