Honored as developing films that touch on scientific themes, the recipients were tapped from a pool of 130 applicants and will be honored during the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival with scenes read from each winning screenplay in an April 23 event.
This year’s three winners are writer-helmer Casey Cooper Johnson’s “Unmanned,” about an Air Force drone operator; Andrew Bujalski’s “Computer Chess,” centering on a computer chess competish in the 1980s; and “Resonance,” Dara Bratt’s story that incorporates neurology and psychiatry in chronicling the friendship between two men.
Grant recipients get financial and professional support as part of the program, while filmmakers will make the rounds of execs, financiers and producers during the fest. Winners were selected by a jury that includes thesps Ryan Phillippe and Stephen Lang, producer Michael Shamberg and a team of scientists.
Tribeca Film Festival runs April 18-29.
