‘The Surrogate’ renamed: ‘Six Sessions’

Fox Searchlight dates Sundance pickup for Oct. 26

Fox Searchlight has changed the name of Sundance hit “The Surrogate” to “Six Sessions” and dated the pic for Oct. 26.

“Six Sessions” stars John Hawkes as a disabled man in an iron lung who decides he wants to lose his virginity to a sex surrogate (Helen Hunt). William H. Macy co-stars.

The name change reportedly was prompted to distance the pic from the Bruce Willis 2009 actioner called “Surrogates.”

Searchlight’s pickup of “The Surrogate” at Sundance, first reported by Variety on Jan. 23, was the largest of the fest at an estimated $6 million.
