‘The Infidel’ set for India remake

Trigno Media to redo British laffer

Indian shingle Trigno Media has acquired the Hindi-language remake rights for helmer Josh Appignanesi’s U.K. laffer “The Infidel.”

The 2010 pic was released in 22 territories and grossed some $4.5 million. It starred Omid Djalili (“Sex and the City 2”) as a Muslim Londoner who finds out that he’s adopted and Jewish and also featured Richard Schiff (“The West Wing”) and Archie Panjabi (“The Good Wife”).

The remake will set writer-producer David Baddiel’s story among Indian Muslims and Hindus.

Trigno director Sajjad Chunawala said: “People are terrified about race and religious issues, especially issues surrounding Muslims and Hindus, and when people are terrified, what they really should do is laugh.”

Trigno, a marketer of Indian films, is in the process of attaching a helmer and cast for the remake.
