Tango Pictures to remake Brazilian hit

Newly formed banner set for English-lingo redo of 'Dois coelhos'

Tango Pictures has acquired the remake rights to Brazilian hit “Dois coelhos” (Two Rabbits).

The project marks the second pic in development for the newly formed production banner headed by Andrew Lazar, Christina Lurie (“Inside Job”) and Steven Shainberg (“Fur”). Tango beat out several other contenders for the actioner that tells a story of revenge and redemption.

Brazilian pic was written and directed by Afonso Poyart, who exec produce the redo with his manager Brent Travers.

Tango Pictures is also shepherding horror pic “Bedbugs,” penned by Ti West.

“Two Rabbits” has been a strong calling card for Poyart, who has been in L.A. recently taking meetings with a range of bizzers, including Imagine’s Brian Grazer and DreamWorks’ Stacey Snider.

Poyart is repped by UTA and Ascend Entertainment.
