Summit sets ‘Alex Cross’ for October

Reboot of James Patterson tale stars Tyler Perry

Summit Entertainment has set an Oct. 26 domestic launch for “Alex Cross,” starring Tyler Perry with Rob Cohen directing.

QED International’s reboot of James Patterson’s iconic character is an origin tale of the detective/psychologist made famous by Morgan Freeman in “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider.” Matthew Fox and Ed Burns are also starring.

“Alex Cross” will open against The Weinstein Co.’s “Halloween 3D” and Fox’s surf pic “Of Men and Mavericks,” starring Gerard Butler.

Lionsgate bought Summit last month but has said Summit will continue to operate as a brand within the company.
