Submarine to remake ‘6ixtynin9’

Nabs rights to Thai comedy crime thriller

Submarine’s recently launched genre label Torpedo Pictures has nabbed remake rights to Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s 1999 Thai comedy crime thriller “6ixtynin9,” it was announced Monday morning at the American Film Market.

The deal was negotiated by Submarine’s David Koh, Dan Braun and Josh Braun and producer and Torpedo partner Stanley Buchthal with the filmmaker.

“6ixtynin9” follows the increasingly dangerous adventures of a young women after she comes home broke, after being fired, and slams the door of her apartment, turning the number 6 into the number 9. The original film was released in 2005 by Palm Pictures.

Submarine expects to announce a writer and director team shortly.

Torpedo was launched at Cannes 2012 to target low- to mid-budget genre projects.
