Euro group to distrib in U.K., Germany, France

Pan-European group Studiocanal has clinched a swathe of pre-sales on Joel and Ethan Coen’s “Inside Llewyn Davis,” which starts shooting Monday in New York.

Studiocanal will distribute in the U.K., France and Germany.

Pic, set amid the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene and produced by Scott Rudin, has been pre-sold to Scandinavia (Mis Label), Australia/New Zealand (Village Roadshow), Switzerland (Ascot Elite) and Benelux (Belga Films).

Pre-sales also encompass top distributors in smaller territories: Singapore’s Shaw Organization, Greece’s Village and Hong Kong’s Golden Scene Co. Poland’s ITI Cinema, Israel’s Lev Cinemas, and Taiwan’s Blockbuster have pre-bought “Davis,” as have Blue Sky Media for Czech Republic/Slovakia and Blitz for former Yugoslavia.

“Davis” was inspired by singer Dave Van Ronk, a friend of Bob Dylan. The ensembler stars Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, F. Murray Abraham, Garrett Hedlund and Jeanine Serralles.

Pre-sales are all the more remarkable since they were struck on the strength of the directors and a pitch, with no script and only a few cast names, said Harold van Lier, who has been upped to the position of Studiocanal head of international distribution.

At Berlin, Van Lier will have a “Davis'” shooting script, a film in production and a full cast to sell.
