Strand snags ‘In the Fog’

Deal made on day of industry screening

Strand Releasing has acquired all U.S. rights to Sergei Loznitsa’s “In the Fog” from The Match Factory and plans a spring release.

Strand announced the deal Thursday, the day of its industry screening at Toronto.

The WWII period drama, which premiered in competition in Cannes, pits three men into a conflict of moral choices in the deepest parts of a forest. Pic has only 72 cuts in its 127 minute length.

The Match Factory and Strand Releasing have had a long relationship with deals including works by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Fatih Akin, Athina Rachel Tsangari and Tom Tykwer.

Loznitsa’s previous effort, “My Joy,” premiered in the main competition in Cannes in 2010.

Deal was done between Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing and Brigitte Suarez of The Match Factory.
