Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to baseball docu “Ballplayer: Pelotero,” with plans for a theatrical and VOD release on July 13.
“Ballplayer” centers on two young baseball players, called “peloteros” in the Dominican Republic, who work to get signed by a professional club on their 16th birthday. The docu marks the feature-length debut for Ross Finkel, Trevor Martin and Jon Paley. Pic’s release is timed for the week of the Major League Baseball All-Star game on July 10. “The simultaneous VOD release will be an excellent way to bring this film to the largest possible audience,” said Strand co-founder Jon Gerrans, who negotiated the deal with Andrew Herwitz of the Film Sales Company.
