Sony finds ‘Apartments’

It takes distrib rights for N. America plus other countries

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has nabbed distribution rights to Rebel Wilson starrer “Small Apartments” for North America and most international territories.

“Small Apartments,” from Swedish helmer Jonas Akerlund, premiered earlier this year at the SXSW film festival. The film follows a clumsy recluse, played by Wilson’s “Bridesmaids” co-star Matt Lucas, who accidentally kills his landlord and embarks on a cover-up.

Pic also features James Caan, Billy Crystal, Johnny Knoxville and Rosie Perez.

“Apartments” was financed by Ben Feingold and Ash R. Shah, who also produced with Timothy Wayne Peternel, David Hillary and Bonnie Timmermann. Pic’s scribe Chris Millis exec produced, along with Feingold, John Glynn and Bridget McMeel.

Sony is finalizing the film’s distribution plans, including the label by which to launch “Apartments.” The studio likely will release the film next year.
