Distrib acquires latest from 'White Ribbon' helmer

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all North American rights to Michael Haneke’s “Amour” from Films Du Losange.

Written and directed by Haneke, pic stars Jean-Louis Trintignant, Emmanuelle Riva and Isabelle Huppert. Variety said Monday that “Amour” is likely to figure in the Cannes selection that will be announced Thursday.

Stefan Arndt, Veit Heiduschka and Margaret Menegoz produced the film with Austrian co-producer Michael Katz.

Trintignant and Riva portray cultivated, retired music teachers whose daughter (Huppert) lives abroad with her family.

“Amour” will mark the third film collaboration between Haneke and Sony Pictures Classics. The previous titles were “Cache” and 2009 Palme d’Or winner “The White Ribbon.”
