Sony Classics bows ‘Amour’ Dec. 19

Palme d'Or winner is third Haneke pic for distrib

On the heels of the pic’s Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, Sony Pictures Classics has set Michael Haneke’s “Amour” for release on Dec. 19 in New York and Los Angeles.

It’s the third Haneke film released by Sony Classics following “Cache,” which won Cannes’ director prize in 2005, and his 2009 Palme d’Or winner “The White Ribbon.”

The drama centers on the final months in an elderly Parisian couple’s marriage.

“The White Ribbon” received Academy Award nominations for foreign-language film and cinematography.
