‘Skyfall’ scribes to pen ‘Kojak’ for Universal

Vin Diesel to star in adaptation of TV series

Universal Pictures is breathing life into a 1970s TV icon: The “Skyfall” writing team of Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have come aboard to write an adaptation of the CBS skein “Kojak,” with Vin Diesel attached to star.

The show ran on CBS from 1973-78 and starred Telly Savalas as Lt. Theo Kojak, a slick, fiery detective who fought crime in New York. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

Diesel will also produce through his One Race Films banner along with Samantha Vincent. Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, co-president of production, and Kristin Lowe, VP of production, will oversee the project for Universal.

The CAA- and Brillstein Entertainment-repped Diesel just wrapped production on “The Fast and the Furious 6.” Purvis and Wade are repped by UTA and Casarotto Ramsay & Associates.
