Joel Silver to produce Rich Wilkes' 'Straight Edge'

Silver Pictures has pre-emptively picked up the spec “Straight Edge” from “XXX” scribe Rich Wilkes.

Joel Silver will produce along with Silver Pictures prexy Andrew Rona and exec VP of production Alex Heineman.

Pic revolves around a heist gone wrong and follows a handful of characters ranging from corrupt cops to Southland gang members.

It is unknown whether this film, which Silver Pictures is currently packaging, will fall under the shingle’s distribution deal with Universal.

The past month marks a very busy time for Silver Pictures having set up “Sanctuary” at Paramount, attached Sean Penn to the action pic “The Prone Gunmen” and picked up “The Outsider” from Warner Bros.

It also just wrapped production on the Liam Neeson pic “Non-Stop.”
