Screen Media acquires ‘Wild Horse’ doc

Pic to begin limited release Aug. 24

Screen Media Films has acquired North American rights to docu “Wild Horse, Wild Ride,” with plans to release it theatrically in New York on August 24, followed by a platform rollout throughout September.

Directed by husband-and-wife team Alex Dawson and Greg Gricus, “Wild” centers on an annual horse-taming contest where 100 people try to save wild mustangs from life beyond federal corrals by taming them.

“As soon as I saw ‘Wild Horse, Wild Ride’ I knew that Alex Dawson and Greg Gricus had captured a very real and special occurrence in our world — the emotional bond between man and horse,” said Screen Media prexy Suzanne Blech. “We are thrilled to work with such talented filmmakers in bringing these stories of trust and love to the public.”

Blech and David Fannon brokered the deal on behalf of Screen Media, with Anne Atkinson of Pryor Cashman negotiating on behalf of the filmmakers.
