Schlondorff set for master class

MONTREAL — Thesp Greta Scacchi will be president of the jury at the 36th Montreal World Film Festival, it was announced Wednesday by fest president Serge Losique.

“The international stature of this great actress has allowed her to shine brightly in films that have marked the world of cinema and we are very honored that she has accepted to be president of the festival jury this year,” said Losique.

Scacchi’s credits include “Heat and Dust,” “Jefferson in Paris,” “Beyond the Sea” and “The Book of Revelation.”

German helmer Volker Schlondorff will give a master class at the fest. Schlondorff is best-known for “The Tin Drum,” which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and the Oscar for best foreign-language film in 1979. His latest film, “Calm at Sea,” set during the German occupation of France, will screen at the fest.

The Montreal World Film Festival runs Aug. 23 to Sept. 3.
