Oliver Stone to attend Swiss premiere
BERLIN — Oliver Stone’s drug-dealer actioner “Savages” will open the Zurich Film Festival on Sept. 20 with the helmer and producer Moritz Borman in attendance.
Co-written by Stone, Shane Salerno and Don Winslow, and based on Winslow’s bestseller, “Savages” stars Taylor Kitsch (“John Carter”) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”) as two successful pot pushers forced to battle a Mexican drug cartel when gangsters kidnap their shared girlfriend. Blake Lively, John Travolta, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek and Emile Hirsch also star. A Universal Pictures release, “Savages” bowed in the U.S. on July 6 and will hit theaters in Switzerland and Germany on Oct. 11. It’s not Stone’s first visit to Zurich. The director was honored with a lifetime achievement award in 2007 and he returned in 2010 when his “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” closed the fest. The 11-day Swiss fest previously announced that it was honoring producer and entertainment industry vet Jerry Weintraub with a special career achievement award.
