Sato, Ayase to star in Kurosawa pic

'Rearu' based on Rokuro Inui novel

TOKYO — Takeru Sato and Haruka Ayase will star in helmer Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s sci-fi drama “Rearu kanzennaru kubinagaryu no hi” (literal translation: The Day of the Real, Perfect Plesiosaur).

Based on a novel by Rokuro Inui, Sato plays a neurosurgeon who dives into the subconscious of his comatose lover (Ayase) to learn why she tried to commit suicide. Also cast are Kurosawa regulars Miki Nakatani, Jo Odagiri, Yutaka Matsushige and Kyoko Koizumi.

Kurosawa’s previous pic, “Tokyo Sonata,” won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at Cannes in 2008, among many honors, and his latest is also being tipped as a Cannes submission. “Rearu kanzenaru kubinagaryu no hi” is skedded for release early next summer by Toho.
