Rosamund Pike, Sam Neill join ‘Long Way Down’

Pascal Chaumeil adapts Nick Hornby novel

LONDON — Rosamund Pike and Sam Neill have joined the cast of French filmmaker Pascal Chaumeil’s English-language debut “A Long Way Down.”

Pike and Neill join Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots in the adaptation of Nick Hornby’s darkly comic best-seller, which has just started lensing in the U.K. and Spain.

The film is about four strangers who meet on New Year’s Eve on the top of a London skyscraper, who each had intended to jump off but make a pact to stay alive and help each other.

Pike has recently finished shooting Christopher McQuarrie’s “Jack Reacher” alongside Tom Cruise, and Edgar Wright’s “The World’s End” with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. She will team again with Pegg on “Hector and the Search for Happiness,” which shoots in January.

Neill was mostly recently seen in “The Vow,” alongside Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams, and the J.J. Abrams exec produced skein “Alcatraz.”

“A Long Way Down” is produced by Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey through their shingle Wildgaze Films. It is financed by BBC Films and DCM. International sales are being handled by HanWay Films.
