Brit thesp Hughes to make helming debut on indie pic

Brit thesp Finola Hughes is making her directorial debut on the indie romantic comedy “The Bet,” starring Portia Thomas (“Enchanted”), Tim Whitcomb, Mary O’Connor, Crystal Daly and Scott Hagood.

“The Bet” is produced by Christine Fry, James Kahn and Jack Presnal. Production company is Community Film Studio Santa Barbara, which bills itself as a non-profit, community-based motion picture company; “The Bet” is currently shooting in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Annie Dahlgren wrote the script,. which pits a lonely teenager against his grandfather in a wager over who “scores” first with a woman. If the teen wins, he acquires his father’s vintage muscle car; and if the grandfather wins, the teen has to rebuild the family front porch and re-do the landscaping.

Hughes is best known for her role in “General Hospital.”
