DreamWork Animation’s “Rise of the Guardians” has been chosen as this year’s recipient of the Hollywood Animation Award by the 16th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards. The award will be presented at the fest’s gala, held Oct. 22 at the Beverly Hilton.

Based on the children’s book series by Oscar winner William Joyce (“The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore”), “Rise of the Guardians” follows the story of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost’s legendary characters, who use their special powers to fight an evil spirit looking for world domination. Helmed by Peter Ramsay, the film features a script by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire (“Rabbit Hole”) with voices by Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law.
