Company inks territory sales for Franco starrer
French sales and distribution company Rezo has closed key territory sales on Stephen Elliott’s “Cherry,” which bowed at Berlin.
The James Franco starrer sold to U.K. (Showbox), Germany (Koch Media), Israel (United King Films), South Korea (Sponge) and Switzerland (Praesens Film). Rezo is also closing a deal with a Latin American buyer. IFC Films will release “Cherry” Stateside.
Rezo is also selling well Bernard-Henri Levy’s Cannes-preeming “The Oath of Tobruck,” a docu exploring the Lybian civil war from within. It’s produced by France’s Margo Cinema and co-financed by Studio 37. The Weinstein Co. just acquired U.S. rights in Cannes.
Rezo’s Cannes slate boasts Sean Baker’s “Starlet,” acquired zby Music Box for U.S. distrib; and two Camera d’Or contenders : Directors’ Fortnight screener “Aliyah,” Eli Wajerman’s identity-crisis drama ; as well as Critics’ Week’s player “God’s Neighbors,” Meni Yaesh’s Israel-set theological thriller.
The Paris-based shingle, run by Laurent Danielou, will also unveil a promo reel of Enzo D’Alo’s toon “Pinocchio,” a twist on the classic tale ; and will host premieres of Artus de Penguern’s burlesque comedy “Sex, Lies and Surgery,” which Chesneau described as a “?’E.R. meets ‘A Fish Named Wanda’?”; and Andrei Proshkin’s big-budget period actioner “The Horde.”
Rezo’s market screenings includes Cao Hamburger’s Brazil-set Adventure pic “Xingu,” as well as a private screening of Stephane Brize’s relationship drama “A Few Hours of Spring,” the helmer’s follow up to “Mademoiselle Chambon.”
