RealD inks deal with China’s Womei chain

Company to equip 100 screens with 3D systems

RealD has signed a deal with China’s expanding Womei theater chain to equip 100 screens with RealD 3D technology.

The agreement brings RealD’s 3D footprint in the rapidly growing market to more than 2,000 screens, which are under contract to install RealD 3D systems.

Womei operates four sites with 33 screens across China, including a new eight-screen multiplex in Chongqing. The company, which was founded in December 2010, plans to open 200 cinemas encompassing 1,000 screens in the next five years.

RealD 3D is installed in approximately 850 screens in China with further commitments for more than 1,200 additional installations. The 3D technology licensor has equipped more than 20,700 screens worldwide across approximately 900 exhibitors in 68 countries.
