Quincy Jones has come on board to score Lee Daniels’ “The Butler,” based on the life of Eugene Allen, a White House servant who worked for eight First Families.
Forrest Whitaker will portray the butler in the ensemble drama, which also stars Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, Aml Ameen, Alan Rickman, James Marsden, Jane Fonda and Robin Williams. Production launched Monday in New Orleans.
Jones has been nominated six times for music Oscars — three times for score and three times for song — along with being nommed as a producer
of “The Color Purple.”
Danny Strong wrote the script with Daniels, based on Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article about Allen. Producers are Pamela Oas Williams, the late Laura Ziskin, Daniels and Cassian Elwes; Hilary Shor and Adam Merims are exec producers.
