Pre-sales ‘Coup’ for Wilson pic

Sierra/Affinity nails pic pacts

Before the Cannes market was officially under way, Nick Meyer’s Sierra/Affinity had secured a raft of pre-sales on Owen Wilson starrer “The Coup.”

Pic, produced by Rob Paris and Adam Ripp’s Crime Scene Pictures, was snapped up by Alliance Films for the U.K. (to be distributed through its Brit arm Momentum Pictures) and Spain (released through its Spanish arm Aurum).

Acquisition reps a reunion for the shingles – — Alliance snapped up U.K. and Canadian rights to Crime Scene produced actioner “Everly,” in Berlin from Sierra/Affinity.

Sierra/Affinity also sold “The Coup” to Germany (Wild Bunch), Latin America (Sun Distribution) Russia and Eastern Europe (EEAP), India (Tanweer Films), Israel (United King), Middle East (Eagle Films), Thailand (IPA Asia Pacific) and Turkey (Tanweer Films).

John Erick Dowdle directs the thriller, which also stars Michelle Monaghan and Pierce Brosnan, from a script that Dowdle and his brother Drew co-wrote.

Story centers on an American family that moves to southeast Asia and finds themselves embroiled in a violent coup.

Paris and Ripp are financing and have teamed with Steve Alexander and Drew Dowdle to produce while Rizal Risjad and Philip Elway will exec produce.

Sierra/Affinity is also shopping Matthew Fox starrer “Emperor,” Halle Berry starrer “The Hive” and “Plus One” in Cannes.

Alliance’s early buying spree also includes snapping up Canadian rights to Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper starrer “American Bullshit,” directed by David O. Russell, and Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming Navy SEALs project. Both pics are being shopped by Megan Ellison’s new financing and international sales entity Panorama.

Alliance also taken Canadian rights to Sofia Coppola’s “Bling Ring,” which is being sold by Glen Basner’s FilmNation. Pic, based on a true story, chronicles fame-obsessed teenagers who use the web to track celebs’ whereabouts in order to rob their homes. Emma Watson, Kirsten Dunst and Leslie Mann star.
