Plus Camerimage to fete David Lynch

Cinematography fest plans retrospective

MOSCOW — Director David Lynch is to be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the opening ceremony of Poland’s Plus Camerimage film festival on Nov. 24.

The event, which focuses on cinematography, marks its 20th anniversary in Bydgoszcz, the central Polish city that has hosted it for three years.

Multihyphenate Lynch, best known for pics “The Elephant Man,” “Wild at Heart,” “Mulholland Drive” and “Blue Velvet,” and TV series “Twin Peaks,” has a long association with the fest.

Plans for a Frank Gehry-designed permanent home for the event in Lodz, a city noted for its film studios, and the development of a creative arts space in collaboration with Lynch, foundered after a new political administration reneged on a property deal.

The fest fought a court decision that deprived it of the 108-acre city center site earmarked for the development, but gave up last month after losing an appeal.

Lynch’s award will be followed by a retro of his films.

“David is a living legend who paved his way into the pantheon of cinema, a filmmaker who never compromised his own artistic credo,” said Plus Camerimage director Marek Zydowicz.
