Paz Vega joins Paul Schrader-written ‘The Jesuit’

Alfonso Pineda Ulloa directs Mexico-shot indie

Spanish thesp Paz Vega, who plays opera singer Maria Callas in the upcoming Grace Kelly film “Grace of Monaco,” is joining the cast of indie pic “The Jesuit,” which Alfonso Pineda Ulloa is directing from a script by Paul Schrader.

Jose Maria Yazpik stars as the title character, a man who has been imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. When his wife is killed and his son kidnapped and taken to Mexico, he devises a dangerous plan to rescue the boy and avenge her death.

Vega will play the integral role of the protag’s ex-wife, while Shannyn Sossamon will play the woman he hires to masquerade as his wife during his quest for revenge.

Alex Garcia, Santiago Garcia Galvan and Jose Martinez Jr. from Argonautas Producciones are producing the pic, which starts filming this month in Mexico.

In addition to “Grace of Monaco,” Vega just reteamed with her “Talk to Her” helmer Pedro Almodovar on his new film “I’m So Excited,” which Sony Pictures Classics acquired back in June. Her past film credits include James L. Brooks’ “Spanglish” and the title role in 2001’s “Sex and Lucia.”

Vega is repped by WME and Management Production Entertainment, which also reps Sossamon along with APA.
